Luxury Universe / Luxury Endangered

The Bargehouse, Oxo Tower, London

Partner L'Ore

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the Luxury Universe / Luxury Endangered Design Competition.

In collaboration with L’Ore we are setting a design challenge to create an outstanding piece of jewellery that captures the beauty of one of the cleanest, rarest emeralds ever mined in Columbia.

The magnificent, rare, emerald from Chivor, Colombia has already been certified as no oil and comes with an appendix letter from one of the most important Swiss Gem Labs in the world. The value of an emerald depends on several factors, such as origin, size, quality, and certification. Colombian emeralds are the most valuable worldwide due to their origin, quality, and colour.

The Competition

The focus of the competition is the notion that luxury is endangered. Whether it be through the loss of skills, craftsmanship, our impact on the environment and the supply chain and consumption. Current concerns around mining that need addressing include the impact on resources and on the planet, communities, health and well-being, equality and change.

Corporate social responsibility has enabled the tracking and tracing of finished goods, the materials used in their construction, their environmental impact and the well-being of those involved in production as the industry becomes more transparent. Imagine raising awareness of all our concerns through the design and manufacture of one of the rarest emeralds ever mined.

You do not need to be a designer to design the piece of jewellery. We are calling on experienced jewellery designers, students and anyone who wants to have a go. This is an opportunity to design a significant piece of jewellery that will be made with a significant.

The Outcome

To design a captivating piece of jewellery that captures the notion of Luxury Universe / Luxury Endangered.

Create a piece that is relevant, captures issues around craftsmanship, materials, slow manufacture and sustainability and captures the significant work being done to make a difference to the whole supply chain.

Submission requirements include; an artists impression, a sketch, a technical drawing and a 100 word description of inspiration.
