Free Jewellery Workshops

For 14 to 18 Year Olds

We’re thrilled to announce our two young peoples educational programmes for Luxury Universe / Luxury Endangered at the Bargehouse, Oxo Tower in London.

Join us for a fantastic experience making jewellery. You will learn to make a silver bracelet with Roger Taylor, an experienced jewellery tutor who has taught at the Royal College of Art and worked with some of the most prominent jewellers in the UK. This is a unique and hands-on opportunity to inspire our students to pursue a career in the world of luxury.  All our participants will have the opportunity to work with Argentium silver, an easy to use precious metal.

In addition to our full two day conference programme with our fantastic speakers and our interactive jewellery exhibition, we will be offering two workshops. Pleae click the links below to explore the details for each.

Make A Bracelet
(2 Hour Workshop)

We will be running 6 jewellery workshops each accommodating 10 young people between the ages of 14 and 18. The participants will over a two hour period work with a tutor to realise a woven bracelet that they will be able to take home with them.

Make A Pendant
(3 Day Workshop)

We will be inviting 6 young people between the ages of 14 and 18 to a three day intensive jewellery making workshop where they will make a silver crown pendant.

In addition to this they will have the opportunity to learn about the craft of jewellery from world leading jewellery designers and instructors. Once finished, the participants will have a pendant to take home. The 3 day course includes all materials.

Dates
1st June to 3rd June from 09:30 to 15:00 each day

Project
To make a pendant from silver to a pre-ordained Crown.
Students will work with a silver sheet blank, some wire and some solder to complete and polish a pendant. In addition they will have the opportunity to make a silver bracelet. They will also have talks about the world of jewellery, mining, gemmology, blockchain and craftsmanship.

Workshop Day 1

Short introduction to:
1. The world of jewellery, its history and social significance.

2. Materials and sustainability.

3. Jewellery design and what can be done.

4. Becoming a jeweller and the history and importance of craftsmanship.

After lunch start making.

Workshop Day 2

Start with an update on each student’s progress and continue working at the bench.

After lunch a short talk on how to finish the piece of the jewellery.

Now they will have the opportunity to take photos and video of their piece in progress to share on social media and with their friends and family.

Back to the bench.

Workshop Day 3

We focus on finishing, engraving and polishing their piece and preparing it to present for judging.

A general talk and Q+A about how their experience was, what they have learnt and how they would like to use it going forward.
